True Indians will be delighted to learn that Varanasi, infamous for it's overcrowded streets will join the list of world's handful of cities which will have a 4 kms stretch of ropeway (in Phase 1) for public transportation. 

A round trip will transport upwards of 7000 people. The service will be available 24x7. It is expected to start ferrying people right upto Dasas Swamedh Ghat on the banks of Ganga River in 2022 itself. 

It's a known fact that some people will be mighty displeased to know about this development, but no one cares about what and how they feel!

Missionaries of Charity itself asked SBI to freeze its accounts: Home Ministry counters Mamata Banerjee's claim.

"MHA did not freeze any accounts of MoC. State Bank of India has informed that MoC itself sent a request to SBI to freeze its accounts," read an excerpt from a press note released by the government. 

As per a press note from the Indian government, the organisation's renewal application under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) was refused on December 25 for not meeting the eligibility conditions under FCRA 2010 and Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules 2011. "No request/revision application has been received from Missionaries of Charity (MoC) for review of this refusal of renewal," the PIB statement added. 

The statement also said that some adverse inputs were noticed while considering the MoC's renewal application. "In consideration of these inputs on record, the renewal application of MoC was not approved. The FCRA registration of MoC was valid up to 31st December 2021," it said.

সে অনেকদিন আগের কথা, দেশে তখন ইংরেজ রাজত্ব। সাহেব নগরপাল ঘোষণা করলেন কলকাতার বুকে কোনো কালা আদমি দু-ঘোড়ার বেশি টানা গাড়িতে চড়তে পারবে না। ময়দানে নোটিশ পড়লো - 'Natives are not allowed to ride three or more Horse's driven cart .'
কদিন পরেই দেখা গেল শামলা চড়িয়ে এক বাঙ্গালী বাবু তিন ঘোড়ার গাড়ি চেপে রেডরোডে হাওয়া খাচ্ছে। ছুটে এলো গোরা সার্জেন্ট, হুঙ্কার দিয়ে নামতে বললো গাড়ি থেকে। সহিস বেচারা তো খেয়েই গেল দুচার থাপ্পড়। বাবুটি কিন্তু নির্বিকার, ধীরে সুস্থে নামলেন গাড়ি থেকে তারপর চোস্ত ইংরেজি তে সাহেব কে বললেন "You better have a check up your eyesight. তোমাদের আইনে বলছে Three horses driven cart prohibited. আমার গাড়িতে তো দুটো ঘোড়া আর একটা ঘুড়ি মানে Mare, তাহলে বাধা কোথায়?" সার্জেন্ট বেচারা পালাবার পথ পায়না !
জন্ম ২৩ নভেম্বর, ১৮৪৫-তে। বর্ধমান জেলার খন্ডঘোষ গ্রামে। অসম্ভব প্রতিভাবান মানুষটি সে আমলের এফ.এ. থেকে এম. এ., কোনো পরীক্ষাতেই দ্বিতীয় হননি। ১৮৬৭ সালে সর্বোচ্চ নম্বর পেয়ে আইন পাশ করেন, লাভ করেন স্বর্ণপদক। কিছুদিন বহরমপুর কলেজে অধ্যাপনার পর চলে আসেন পুরোপুরি আইন ব্যবসায়। বিশ শতকের গোড়ার দিকে তিনি ছিলেন কিংবদন্তি তুল্য আইনজীবী। সহকারী রূপে পেয়েছেন বাংলার বাঘ আশুতোষ ও রাষ্ট্রপতি রাজেন্দ্র প্রসাদের মতো ব্যাক্তিত্বকে। সেই আমলে অন্য যে কোন ব্যারিস্টারের থেকে তাঁর ফিজ ছিল কয়েক গুণ বেশি তবুও মক্কেলরা তার দরজায় ভিড় করতো। চরিত্রে ছিল অদ্ভুত বৈপরীত্য, একটাকাও ফি কমাতে রাজি হতেন না কখনো অথচ উপার্জনের বেশিটাই খরচ করতেন দানধ্যানে ও বাংলায় শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থার উন্নতিকল্পে। এই অবদানের স্বীকৃতি স্বরূপ ১৯১৫ সালে বৃটিশ সরকার তাঁকে নাইট উপাধিতে ভূষিত করেন।
যুক্ত ছিলেন ভারতের জাতীয় কংগ্রেসের সঙ্গে। বিংশ শতাব্দীর গোড়ার দিকে বঙ্গভঙ্গকে কেন্দ্র করে কংগ্রেসের নরমপন্থী-চরমপন্থী বিভাজনে তিনি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা গ্রহণ করেছিলেন। বঙ্গভঙ্গ-বিরোধী আন্দোলনে যুক্ত থাকার অপরাধে সরকারি স্কুল-কলেজ থেকে বিতাড়িত ছাত্রদের বিকল্প শিক্ষাদানের জন্য ১৯০৬-এ গঠিত হয় ‘জাতীয় শিক্ষা পরিষদ'। শুধু কারিগরী শিক্ষার উপর জোর দিতে চেয়ে তারকনাথ পালিতের নেতৃত্বে তৈরি হল ‘কারিগরী শিক্ষা প্রসার সমিতি’।
ব্যারিস্টার সাহেব ওই দু’দলেরই সভাপতি হয়ে রইলেন। দুই প্রতিষ্ঠান আলাদা আলাদা ভাবে স্কুল-কলেজ খুলল কিন্তু নানা কারণে সেগুলি প্রায় বন্ধ হবার উপক্রম হল। পরে দুই প্রতিষ্ঠান এক করে দেবার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হলেও তা বিশেষ ফলপ্রসূ হল না। শেষমেশ টিঁকে রইল শুধু মাত্র 'বেঙ্গল টেকনিক্যাল ইনস্টিটিউট'। 
মৃত্যুর আগে উনি তাঁর প্রায় ষোল লক্ষ টাকার সম্পত্তি ওই কারিগরি শিক্ষার প্রতিষ্ঠানকে দান করে যান। সেই টাকাতেই ১৯২২-এ যাদবপুরে ৩৩ একর জায়গা কিনে ১৯২৪-এ 'বেঙ্গল টেকনিক্যাল ইনস্টিটিউট'কে ‘কলেজ অফ ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজি’ নাম নিয়ে যাদবপুরে স্থানান্তরিত করা হল। ১৯৫৬ সালে সেটাই পরিণত হল 'যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে'। এই শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের কৃতি ও সফল ছাত্র ছাত্রীরা জানেন কি, তাদের প্রিয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তৈরীর নেপথ্যের মানুষটি কে ?
দক্ষিণ কলকাতার এক অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রাস্তা হলো 'রাসবিহারী অ্যাভিনিউ'। ১৯২৯ সালে তা জনসাধারণের ব্যবহারের জন্য খুলে দেওয়া হয়। রাস্তাটি গোড়ায় পরিচিত ছিল ‘মেন সয়্যর রোড’ বা 'বালিগঞ্জ অ্যাভিনিউ' নামে। বেশিরভাগ মানুষ জানেন এটি বিপ্লবী রাসবিহারী বোসের নামাঙ্কিত! না ভুল, একদম ভুল।
প্রয়াত ব্যরিস্টার রাসবিহারী ঘোষের সম্মানে স্বাধীনতার পর রাস্তাটির এই নামকরণ, যিনি ছিলেন একজন প্রথিতযশা আইনজীবী এবং 'যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়' তৈরীর নেপথ্য কারিগর। আজ তাঁর জন্মদিনে আমার শ্রদ্ধার্ঘ্য।

Candidate in Gujarat got 1 vote in rural local body elections in December 2021

A candidate from Gujarat’s Vapi district was heartbroken after getting only a single vote, his own, in the rural local body elections in December 2021. The candidate’s loss was even more embarrassing as he had a total of twelve members in his family, none of whom voted for him. The candidate, Santosh, had thrown in his nomination for the post of Sarpanch in Vapi district’s Chharwala village. He expected that at least his family, which had a total of 12 voters, would vote in his favour.

However, after the votes were counted, Santosh found out that he had managed to get only one vote, that too his own. He broke down near the counting centre and said that even his own family did not vote for him.

Bhuvan, a peanut (mungfali) seller of Birbhum district in West Bengal has become an internet celebrity in December 2021.

Techies will now drive from Kolkata to Hyderabad or Bangalore or Krishnanagar with 'Kaa Chaa Badam' blaring from his car's Harman music system. 

I am in no mood to laugh. In a wasted state whose Queen sees future in 'chop shilpo' (oil fried savories) and making pillows made of 'kaas' flowers or fallen leaves from trees, the future of WasteB is 'utterly dark' (ooops, extremely bright)!

Priyanka Gandhi detained enroute to Lakhimpur Kheri early on 2021-10-04

Priyanka Gandhi was stopped from proceeding to the site of the farmers protest in UP. 

The way she behaved with senior police officials of UP was deplorable. 

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was on Monday 2021-10-04 detained in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur even as she managed to evade police deployed at multiple points en route to neighbouring Lakhimpur Kheri, where she planned to meet the families of the people killed in the violence during a farmer protest on Sunday 2021-10-03. The violence was triggered after a car hit protesting farmers. 

There was a brief altercation when police tried to stop Priyanka Gandhi in Lucknow and later near Hargaon along the Sitapur-Lakhimpur border. She was eventually detained. 

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which prohibits the gathering of over four people, was imposed in Lakhimpur Kheri after the violence.

Priyanka Gandhi said the treatment meted out to her amounted to kidnapping. “Are you going to kidnap me? Does this have legal status? ...I do not understand this. Arrest me if you want. I will readily go with you. You are trying to forcibly push me. This is physical assault, attempt to kidnap, attempt to molest, attempt to harm. You dare not touch me. Get an arrest warrant from your officers and ministers,” she said. “You should know how to behave with the women. You may have not the rule of law in your state. But there is the rule of law in this country. You have tried to push me. You have no right to do this.” 

Priyanka Gandhi, who flew to Lucknow on Sunday, was initially stopped at her residence. As she tried to leave for Lakhimpur Kheri around midnight, police were deployed outside her house. Congress workers shouted slogans such as “awaz do hum ek hain (we are united)” as the police refused to allow her vehicle to leave for Lakhimpur Kheri. After a brief altercation, Priyanka Gandhi managed to cross a police cordon and walked some distance as the workers continued to raise slogans. She later got into her vehicle and left for Lakhimpur Kheri. By about 12.30 am, she crossed Ataria and entered the Sitapur district. As she changed her vehicle on the way, the police were unable to stop her at Itaunja, where most of Congress leaders following her stopped around 12.50 am. She changed the route and reached Hargaon via Sidhauli and Biswan. 

She was detained in a government guest house by the authorities. She was filmed by the Lutyens Media brooming the floor to project her as a very simple lady. The video went viral.

Member of the judiciary was taught a lesson at a highway toll plaza in MP

Sometime in 2020 it needed ₹80 to cross this toll plaza in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh. In the car sat an Additional District Government Counsel who wrongfully demanded a free passage. Outside stood the deputy manager of the toll plaza who was rightfully adamant that the person in the car must pay up because he was not entitled for a free passage with paying the toll charges.

Sanjukta was posted as Superintendent of Police in Bodo infested Sonitpur district of Assam in 2014 while the dist was in utter chaos. Hundreds of people were being killed. Engaging with them in the dense forests of Assam was an invitation to certain death. An inspiration to the men she leads, they would swear by her leadership. Used to a regular wave of death threats she holds her head high with an enviable record of killing 16 terrorists and arresting 64 in her term of 30 months.
Presently in Delhi, her goal is to completely eliminate terrorism in the country.
