Mithun Kumar Dey is a West Bengal Police Service (WBPS) officer who has served as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Diamond Harbour and Additional Superintendent of Police (Zonal) for the Diamond Harbour Police District. He was extremely close to Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MP from Diamond Harbour.
An FIR was registered against him at the Diamond Harbour police station based on allegations of torture from a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor and a journalist. The complainants alleged they were beaten and subjected to electric shocks while being held.
He was also named in a police complaint filed by former TMC minister Giasuddin Molla. Molla alleged that Dey took unwarranted punitive actions against local party workers and was involved in harassment within the police station under the instructions of senior TMC leadership.
Prior to the recent West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, the Election Commission removed him from election-related duties.
Mitun Kr Dey will now have to face the consequences for his wrongdoings during TMC era.
