Jewellery shops across Bihar will deny entry to customers wearing hijabs, burqas, masks or helmets, citing security concerns. The decision follows directions from the All India Jewellers and Gold Federation (AIJGF) amid rising thefts and robberies.
The rule comes into effect statewide from January 8, 2026, with “No Entry” notices already displayed outside several jewellery shops in Patna. Traders said high gold and silver prices have made such stores frequent targets, adding that entry will be allowed only after customers uncover their faces. The restriction applies equally to men and women.
