India To Introduce Official Caller ID System:
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has approved the rollout of a new system called Calling Name Presentation (CNAP), which will display the real name of the person calling your phone. This name will come directly from the caller’s KYC information registered with their mobile operator.
The main purpose of this move is to reduce fake calls by letting users know exactly who is calling them, even if the number is not saved in their contacts. It also aims to make communication more transparent and safer for everyone.
This feature will work at the telecom network level, meaning users will not need any third-party apps like Truecaller. The caller’s name will appear automatically when the phone rings, regardless of which mobile company they use.
Telecom operators will now begin preparing the technical setup and rollout plan. Once implemented, this could significantly improve trust and security in everyday phone communication.
