এই সবের মধ্যে একটা কিন্তু লাভ আছে । এই কে কাকে টেক্কা দেওয়ার লড়াইয়ে লাভ হয় দর্শকের । ড্রয়িং রুমে বসে এসব দেখে হাসেন অনেকে, কিন্তু চুটিয়ে দেখে নেন শেষ পর্যন্ত সবটা । 
আর লোকে গোগ্রাসে গেলে বলে কি সুন্দর সর্বাধিক প্রচারিত চ্যানেলটি আজ ২০১৬ র পশ্চিম উরুগুয়ের ডোলেরেসের ঝড়ের ভিডিওটা বালাসোরের ইয়াস বলে চালিয়ে দিল ! আর তারপর সব দোষ বাচ্চা বাচ্চা রিপোর্টার গুলোর ? বুড়ো খোকারা নিউজ রুমে বসে ফেক ভিডিও ছাড়লে সেটা দোষ নয়  ? 
বুক সমান জলে দাঁড়িয়ে টিভি নাইনের সৌমেন মন্ডল যখন গঙ্গা সাগরে কপিল মুনির আশ্রমের সামনে লাইভ কভারেজ দিচ্ছেন তখন একবারও কেউ আমরা ভেবে দেখেছি ছেলেটার পরিবার আছে ? কেউ ভেবেছি বালাসোরে ঝড়ের মধ্যে দাঁড়ানো সিজার মন্ডলদের কথা ? এঁরা প্রত্যেকে বাড়িতে পরিবার রেখে আমাদের চোখের খিদে মেটাতে গেছে । প্রায় প্রত্যেকটা চ্যানেলের বাচ্চা বাচ্চা ছেলেমেয়ে গুলো দিন ভোর লড়াই করে টি আর পি বাড়ানোর লড়াই লড়েছে । কেউ কেউ অতি উৎসাহী হয়ে কিছু ভুল করেছে, বেশী কেঁদেছে । কিন্তু ফ্রন্ট লাইনে দাঁড়িয়ে লড়েছে তো ?
আর তারপর কেউ আমরা কখনো খবর রেখেছি যে ছেলে মেয়ে গুলো অধিকাংশই দিনের শেষে অফিসের contractual কর্মী ? একটা ভুল হলে শুনতে হবে - "কাল থেকে এসোনা" । পড়াশুনা শিখে একটা নেশায়, একটা প্যাসানে সাংবাদিক হতে চেয়েছে এরা । রিপোর্টার হতে চেয়েছে এরা ।  ভুল তো করেনি । 
ভুলটা তো এই সমাজের । বাধ্য করেনি সমাজ ব্যবস্থাটাকে বাধ্য করতে - তুমি কারুর জীবন নিয়ে, কেরিয়ার নিয়ে খেলতে পারনা । কখনোই পারো না । তোমার মাথায় যাঁর হাতই থাকুক না কেন । 
২০২০ তে এক সকালের একটা নোটিশে এ ভাবে আনন্দবাজারে ৩৭৬ জনের কাজ চলে গিয়েছিল । তার মধ্যে সাংবাদিক হওয়ার নেশায় কত তরুণের জীবনের স্বপ্ন ভঙ্গ হয়েছে কেউ খবর রেখেছি আমরা ? এই সমাজ ? - যারা আজ সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় এই ছেলেমেয়ে গুলোকে নিয়ে ট্রোল করছি ? 
যারা আজ বলছেন সব প্রমোশন আর বোনাসের দৌড়, জেনে রাখুন এই  কান্না আর বুক সমান জলে দাঁড়িয়ে লাইভ কভারেজ দেওয়া ছেলে মেয়েগুলো এক এক জন স্বপ্নের সেলসম্যান । সাংবাদিকতার পেশাতে না এলে এরা কেউ অধ্যাপক, কিংবা সরকারি আমলা হতে পারত । হয়নি স্বপ্ন ফেরি করতে গিয়ে । সেই দুর্বলতায় মালিকরা এঁদের ব্যবহার করেন । আর মুনাফায় ঘাটতি হলে ছুঁড়ে ফেলতেও কালক্ষেপ করেন না । তবু এঁরা সব জেনেও আজ কোমর সমান জলে নেমেছিলেন আমাদের চোখের খিদে মেটাতে ।
জলে ভেসে গেলে সংবাদ মাধ্যমের মালিকরা এঁদের ক্ষতিপূরণ দিতেন । আমরা আহা তু তু করতাম । তারপর কালের গতিপথে বিস্মৃত হতেন এঁরা । এঁদের নাম গুলো ।
তাই এঁদের ভুলটাকে নিয়ে ট্রোল নয়, লড়াইটাকে কুর্ণিশ করুন । একটু বাড়তি কান্না, একটু বাড়তি আবেগ, একটু বাড়ানো রিপোর্টিং থাকলই বা । ইয়াস আমাদের যতটা দেবে ভেবেছিলাম দেয়নি । এঁরা তো দিলেন । এভাবেই নয় ভাবুন না । ক্ষতি কি !!

PM Modi made an aerial survey of the flood affected regions of Odisha and West Bengal on Friday 2021-05-28 to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Yaas on 26th.

The CM of West Bengal has refused to meet the PM at Kalaikunda airbase (near Kharagpur) because leader of the opposition in WB assembly, Suvendu Adhikari (who defeated her in the recent electons) was also invited to be present in the proposed meeting.

Their great grandfathers did it, and so did their grandfathers, fathers and now in May 2021 they are doing it once again. Every successive election brought no relief to their heart wrenching plight although cyclones strike every 1 - 3 years.

Whenever there's a cyclone, men and women stand against mud embankments so that raging sea waves strike their bodies and not the embankments. It's albeit a futile effort to stop saline water from flooding their agricultural land and hutments. 
It was a golden opportunity to bring in a change to their misery this April 2021. However, they were brainwashed with lies and lure of small benefits which transform into droplets if at all the benefits reach them.

In 1952, Sudhir Kumar Sen set up Sen-Raleigh bicycle manufacturing unit in Kanyapur, Asansol. The vast (125,000 sq, ft) modern factory with state-of-the-art equipment had the capacity to manufacture 2,00,000 cycles annually. Initially, the accessories and various components of the bicycles were imported from England and Germany but within a couple of years, manufacturing of these components began in the factory at Asansol. The sturdy cycles gained huge popularity within a short time as the pricing was fixed keeping in mind the buying capacity of the common man. Sen not only concentrated on manufacturing the Sen-Raleigh bicycles but also imported other renowned bicycle brands like Humber, Robin Hood and popularized them in India. Sen-Raleigh bicycles were also exported to different countries abroad.

Sen-Raleigh Company was the only player and ruled the bicycle market in India for many decades as the sole manufacturer and distributer, but gradually other players joined the race and individual manufacturers set up factories in different states and made bicycles locally that they sold at a much cheaper price. Sen-Raleigh Company needed to change its strategy to remain in the race. Amid all this, on August 28, 1959, Sudhir Kumar Sen breathed his last while on a tour to Germany. During this time, the government encouraged the setting up and expansion of four wheeler industry in the country. The middle class was enticed to go for four wheeler vehicles. This gave a big blow to the bicycle market. Sen Raleigh was forced to cut down its price to remain in the business but that did not help and the company’s financial condition went for a downhill journey. 
Finally, in 1975, the Central Government took over the management of the company and continued production under the brand name of Cycle Corporation of India Ltd. But by then the company was embroiled in a series of litigations that led to its closure in the 1990s. However, the Raleigh brand bicycles are still doing robust business abroad. Manufacturing of components are outsourced to companies in China, Taiwan and Thailand from where the cycles are manufactured in the main units at England and America. It is a pity that we Indians failed to continue our association with a premier brand and manufacture world class bicycles here in India. 
The deserted factory, living quarters, and playground – the entire township at Kanyapur off Asansol stands as a silent observer to the golden phase of industrialization this place witnessed and then wilted and then died.
The Sen-Raleigh brand always held a very special place in the hearts of most Indians and still brings back memories of another era for many old-timers. It is not unusual to come across families who still get excited when they announce with pride their vintage possession: a Sen-Raleigh bicycle!

For the uninitiated and a gist also for those of my friends who don't understand Bengali: 
The bald man talking to press from inside the grilled window is Sovon Chatterjee (SC), an utterly corrupt ex TMChii backed Mayor of Kolkata. CBI picked up Sovon from his bedroom at 5.30 am on Monday, 2021-05-17 while he was with his live-in paramour and subsequently arrested for accepting cash in the Narada sting operation case. 
After the arrest his actual wife Ratna ran all around to secure bail for her husband. Meanwhile, cunning Sovon landed himself in a luxury suit in Woodburn Ward at government run superspeciality SSKM Hospital feigning serious illness. His paramour Baisakhi forced the doctors to relent and occupied another adjacent luxury suit in the same hospital for some gala time. 
The other man is Kunal Ghosh (KG) who got arrested on behest of the proprietress of TMChii for his involvement in Sarada Chit Fund scam and securing bail has rejoined TMChii as the party spokesman. 
After the High Court ordered the release of the TMChii netas from jail/ hospital, three out of four still preferred to stay back in hospital. A TV channel did a sting operation on Friday late evening where the three netas and the lady were all filmed heading to a suit for a secret meeting. 
SC and KG have always been at loggerheads.  Now the fight is out in the open with no holds barred.

Travelling in private vehicles to vaccination centres allowed during lockdown in WB

West Bengal government has imposed strict lockdown throughout the state w.e.f. Sunday, 2021-05-16 to Sunday, 2021-05-30 to control the spread of Covid-19. 
I have been receiving a lot of queries since Saturday about restrictions on movement in personal transport to Covid Vaccination Centres (CVC). 
Alapan Banerjee, IAS, Chief Secretary of West Bengal has confirmed at a press meet while announcing the lockdown on Saturday,  2021-05-15 that CVCs will operate as usual and beneficiaries will be allowed to proceed to vaccination centres in personal vehicles for the much needed vaccination. He spelled it out in no uncertain terms. 
Moreover, he has announced that almost all government and private offices will be closed and so will all educational institutions. 
Movement of intra-state buses, local trains, taxis, AppCabs, autoricshaws are totally banned and so are movements of personal vehicles without valid reasons. Only vehicles carrying essential items and/ or engaged in healthcare duties will be allowed. 
Bazaars, grocery, milk and dairy outlets will be open from 7 am to 10 am. Pharmacy outlets and opthalmologists will remain open according to their usual business hours. E-commerce deliveries will happen as usual. Sweetmeat shops will operate from 10 am to 5 pm.

A new RT PCR testing Centre started operating on 2021-05-12 at Mela Ground, Newtown, Kolkata where Dr Lal Pathlabs is doing the test at a small fee. Another RT PCR Centre is running from ticket  counter of Eco Park. 

Surakshya and Dr Lal also do the test from their lab centre in New Town. 
NKDA does RAT test, FREE, every day from Webel Fujisoft building in AA3.
NKDA is also operating two Covid Vaccination Centres, FREE, mainly for second doses only.

ওই ব্যাক্তি এসব শুনে বলতে লাগল সব ঠিক আছে বাবু, কিন্ত আমাদের কাম-ধান্দা সব চৌপট হয়ে যাচ্ছে। 
আমি বললাম - খুলেই বলুন না দাদা, দু নম্বরি করতে ভয় লাগছে? 
ক্যাশ ট্রানজেক্সন করতে ভয় লাগছে? 
বেনামী সম্পত্তি কিনতে ভয় লাগছে? 
ব্যাঙ্ক ট্রানজেক্সন বেশী হলে ইনকাম ট্যাক্সকে ভয় লাগছে?
ওই ব্যাক্তি আবার চুপ এসব শুনে, তারপর আবার বলে উঠল - সব ঠিক আছে কিন্ত মোদী বেকার লোক, কাজের থেকে ঢপ বেশী দেয়। 
আমি আবার বললাম - আচ্ছা, একটা কথা বলুন তো ১২ টাকায় ২ লক্ষ টাকার দুর্ঘটনাজনিত বীমা, ৩৩০ টাকায় ২ লক্ষ টাকার জীবন বীমা কি আপনি করিয়েছেন? 
ওই ব্যাক্তিটি আবার চুপ করে রইল। 
আমি বললাম - আপনার বাড়ীতে যে শৌচালয় নির্মান হয়েছে সেটাতে আপনার মা-বোন-বৌয়ের ইজ্জত রক্ষা হচ্ছে তো?
আপনার বাড়ীতে উজ্জ্বলা যোজনার গ্যাসে আপনার বাড়ীর মহিলাদের চোখের জল ধোঁয়া থেকে বন্ধ হয়েছে তো?
৩০০ টাকার এলইডি বাল্ব আজকে ৬০ টাকায় কিনে আপনার বাড়ীতে জ্বালাচ্ছেন তো?
সরকারী কর্মচারীরা খুশী নয় কারন এখন আর ফাঁকি দিতে পারছে না। 
পয়সাওয়ালারা খুশী নয় কারন মোদী ব্ল্যাকমানি রাখতে দিচ্ছে না। 
মধ্যবিত্তরা খুশী নয় কারন সব কাজ জলদি জলদি হয়ে যাচ্ছে।
গরীবরা খুশী নয় কারন সব যখন অখুশী তখন ওদের  সাথে তাল  মেলাতে  গিয়ে গরীবরাও অখুশী।
যদি মোদী ক্ষমতা লোভী হত তাহলে নোটবন্দি, জিএসটির মত কড়া পদক্ষেপ নিত না, অপারেশন খরচ কম করে ৫০ হাজার ডাক্তারদের শত্রু তৈরী করত না।
৮০০ ধরনের ঔষধের দাম কম করে মেডিকেল ওয়ালাদের কোপে পড়ত না ।
স্পেকটার্ম, কয়লা থেকে দুর্নীতি দূর করার জন্য বড় বড় উদ্যাোগপতিদের সাথে শত্রুতা করত না।
গ্যাস সাবসিডি, ১০০ দিনের কাজ সহ সমস্ত সরকারী টাকা গ্রাহকের একাউন্টে জমা করিয়ে দালালদের শত্রু তৈরী করত না।
মোদীর কাছ থেকে হয়তো আপনারা গদি কেড়ে নিতে পারবেন কিন্ত মোদী যে সংকল্প নিয়েছে ভারতবর্ষকে শক্তিশালী করতে সেই প্রতিজ্ঞা থেকে সরাতে আপনারা কখনও পারবেন না।

Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Carter who clicked a hungry child and vulture committed suicide

Remember the picture? The name of the picture was "The vulture & the little girl.

In the picture, a vulture is waiting for the death of a hungry little girl. Kevin Carter, a South African photojournalist, captured the March 1993 famine in Sudan. He was awarded the "Pulitzer Prize" for the film. But Carter committed suicide at the age of 33, despite receiving so much respect.
But what was the reason for suicide ?
In fact, when he was busy celebrating such a great honor at the time, the news of his receiving the award was being shown on various TV channels, at that time someone asked in a phone interview what happened to the girl in the end ?
Carter replied that he could not say because he was in a hurry to catch his flight.
"How many vultures were there?" He asked again.
"I think there was one," Carter said.
The man on the other end of the phone said, "I'm saying there were two vultures that day, one of them with a camera."
Realising the significance of these words, Carter became upset and eventually committed suicide.
It should be humane to get anything in any situation. Carter would be alive today if he had taken the starving baby to the United Mission's feeding center, which was only 1/2 mile away, where the baby might have been trying to reach.
Today, 27 years later, the vultures are still returning home from all over India with cameras in their hands, busy taking pictures of burning corpses and selling them online and of people crying in exasperation when their near and dear ones are suffocating due to lack of oxygen.
These vultures are more concerned with gathering news, with increasing channel TRP, than worrying about deaths. They are busy collecting breaking news by pouring oil on the funeral pyres.
Kevin Carter had self-esteem, so he committed suicide. But the vultures named after this journalist are busy making breaking news with dignity.
