In the latest development in Saif Ali Khan's stabbing case, the 54-year-old actor seems to be getting embroiled in a controversy. The Association of Medical Consultants Mumbai has raised concerns about the swift approval of his insurance claim, questioning celebrities’ "preferential treatment." 

Following the knife attack at Bandra's residence, Khan was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital for five days. An image is now doing the rounds on the internet, showing a cashless request of nearly ₹36 lakh was placed for the actor's five-day stay. Initially, the insurance provider had cleared a payout of ₹25 lakh, which sparked outrage among social media users and triggered a debate around "special treatment for celebrities."

"The normal process is to ask for an FIR copy in medicolegal cases. The insurance company waived off this requirement and immediately approved the cashless request for ₹25 lakh. The final bill, apparently ₹36 lakh, was also approved. The surgery and stay for 4 days do not justify the huge bill and the prompt approval.” Jha further added in his tweet, "If this was any normal person, the company would have applied reasonable and customary charges and not paid the claim. IRDAI should answer why Niva Bupa gave preferential treatment to a celebrity and made it hard for normal people to get a claim.”

The Mumbai-based Association of Medical Consultants, representing over 14,000 medical professionals across multiple cities, has addressed a letter to the chairman of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) regarding the cashless approval granted for Khan’s medical treatment.

"We are writing to express our concern and dissatisfaction regarding the recent news of Saif Ali Khan being sanctioned ₹25 lakhs for cashless treatment under his insurance policy, which seems to be a preferential treatment compared to the benefits available to common policyholders," the organisation said in a statement.
