Those who criticise PM Modi and his government, claiming complacency, wasted years, or insufficient progress, often overlook the transformative changes delivered since 2014. Before that, many accepted slow progress as inevitable, voting without expecting real breakthroughs.
Yet, the scale of achievements over the past decade is staggering. India has made unprecedented strides in infrastructure, welfare, and governance, delivering outcomes once deemed impossible in our lifetime. We all desire faster progress, given the ground we still need to cover, but pausing to recognise these milestones fosters appreciation and encouragement.
For perspective, consider Rajiv Gandhi's term: a massive mandate built on sympathy, yet delivering limited lasting impact. In contrast, this government has pursued bold reforms and execution with remarkable integrity; no major scams have marred its record, a rarity in Indian politics.
To those demanding more now: Where was this urgency before 2014? Why weren't previous governments held to the same standards? Selective criticism often reveals more about the critic than the government.
Here’s an updated, verified list of key accomplishments as of late 2025:
- Swachh Bharat Mission: Over 11.5 crore individual household toilets constructed, achieving near-universal sanitation coverage and declaring India Open Defecation Free (with ongoing sustainability efforts in Phase 2).
- Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana: More than 10.35 crore LPG connections provided to poor households, promoting clean cooking fuel and improving health outcomes for women.
- Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana: Over 57 crore bank accounts opened, revolutionising financial inclusion with deposits exceeding ₹2.75 lakh crore.
- Jal Jeevan Mission: Tap water connections reached over 15.72 crore rural households (81% coverage), ending the drudgery of water fetching for millions.
- Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana: More than 52 crore loans sanctioned worth over ₹32.61 lakh crore, empowering micro-entrepreneurs (68% women beneficiaries).
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Over 3 crore houses sanctioned under urban scheme (89 lakh+ completed); combined with rural, millions of pucca homes delivered to the economically weaker sections.
- Renewable Energy: Solar capacity surged to ~133 GW (from 2.65 GW in 2014); total renewable capacity ~254 GW, with a record 44.5 GW added in 2025 alone.
- Metro Rail Expansion: Operational network ~1,090 km across 26 cities; over 1,000 km under construction.
- Railways Modernization: Near-complete electrification (99.2% of broad-gauge network); extensive station redevelopment; over 160 Vande Bharat trains operational for faster, safer travel.
- Highways and Expressways: National highway network expanded significantly; construction pace ~34 km/day; major projects like Bharatmala advancing connectivity.
- Airports and Aviation: Dozens of new/greenfield airports operational (e.g., Navi Mumbai phase); UDAN scheme boosting regional air links.
- Ports and Waterways: Modern ports like Vizhinjam operational; inland waterways revitalized.
- Historic Reforms: Abrogation of Article 370; construction of Ram Mandir; restoration projects in Kashi and Kedarnath.
These are not favors, they are deliverables from a government focused on nation-building.
The progress speaks for itself.
I'm listening to counterpoints, but facts demand acknowledgment.
